May 1998

5 May

On my way to work, my car was in an accident (called over here a wreck, which is kind of strange because none of the cars were wrecked). A large van was travelling too fast behind me and was unable to stop for the red light ahead. As a result I stopped just short of the car in front of me, but was hit from behind and shunted into the car in front. The meat in the sandwich, as it were. I was okay, and was not in the wrong, but I did receive a citation for not possessing a Georgia drivers license. This required a court appearance on 18 June.

9 May

Path of Allyson play at MAR's music store in Marrietta.

Lori plays keyboards for this local goth/rock band. They are actually a very good band. I was a little late to the performance, but it was excellent. I met the other band members, and bought a copy of their CD, "Blue Letter Diary."

20 May

I sat my Georgia drivers license.

First I had to stand in line for three quarters of an hour. Next I had to have my eyes checked. Next I had to provide half a dozen proofs of identity to prove that I was who I said I was. Next was an eye check and then two sets of 20 A/B/C or True/False questions, of which you had to get 15 correct. This was ridiculously easy. Having passed these tests, it was on to the driving test.

The driving test consisted of driving round a carpark marked with imitation road markings and cones. There was no testing of anything remotely difficult - no parallel parking, no hill start, maybe there was a three-point turn. But it was a joke. And then it was a case of join another line to get my photo taken and my fingers printed. And then wait for the interim card to be printed. What a joke. But hey, now I'm legally allowed to drive.

21 May

Pandora's Box and then checked out "Das Tierdrama - Electronic Funky Ass Mayhem" at 688.

22 May

Path of Allyson play at Dark Horse Tavern.

I arrived at the Dark Horse in time to see two bands prior to POA. The first was a Seattle-rock type band that I can't recall the name of. The other band was an awesom chicks-with-guitars pop band called "Amanda Jones" who absolutely rocked.
