February 19981 Feb Drove up I-75 to Chattanooga, TN. Wandered around the outside of the Tennessee Aquarium (was late afternoon when I got there, so I didn't bother checking inside). I got accosted by a couple of guys who asked me "If you were to die today, would you go to heaven or hell?" I replied, "I don't believe in either, so I really can't answer your question." The nice men gave me some quotes from the Bible and went their own way. THey probably couldn't nderstand my accent :-) I came home via a Civil War National Park (can't recall which one) and the city of Rome, GA. 2 Feb Finished reading "The Sorrows of Young Werther" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Absolutely fucking brilliant - beautiful and disturbing. 6 Feb First assault on Buckhead. I only wish I could remember it beyond $2 drinks at World Bar, and good Guiness at Fado Fado. 7 Feb Very bad hangover from last night :-) In the afternoon, I brave a journey round I-285 to Northlake Mall to check out a second-hand book sale. Most is shite, but I did pick up a couple of books: a couple of texts of Greek plays, and a couple of books on political theory.
13 Feb The options are: Buckhead, gig, movies, or stay home. The paper doesn't suggest any gigs worth catching, so I go to the opening night of "The Wedding Singer" (Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler). Great film - laughed myself silly. 14 Feb Saw "Good Will Hunting" (Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams). Another high quality film. 15 Feb I decided to take a drive to Athens. On arrival in downtown Athens, I parked and went for a wander. I checked out a little shop called Bodega. The very cute sales assistance recommended the Dogwood Cafe, which was just around the corner, as a good place to eat. I wandered down and had myself a very tasty salad. I had a little walk down the main street and stopped in at one of the record shops. I ended up buying a couple of CDs. The number of cafes and bars about would imply that Athens is a place that really goes off. I should check it out sometime... 17 Feb I went to a Bingo and Pizza night at the apartment complex offices. Met a number of people, including JOnathan Lo, who is to become my chiropractor (he is studying at Life College - now Life University). 21 Feb Jonathan, Tony (another Post Lane resident) and I head to a keg party put on by Life College students. Chatted with some interesting and some not-so-interesting people before heading off to Buckhead. Not really very much to report about this adventure, except that I got nicely toasted. 28 Feb Pick up Jason from the Airport Jason is back in town, to cover for me while I am back in New Zealand for my mother's 50th birthday (aren't I a good, dutiful, son). |
