June 2001

1 June

Friday! Yay for Friday. Last night's wakeups were quick to resolve, and over by 2:30, but I still needed more sleep when I awoke. Oh well.

I accepted the new position/direction offered to me yesterday by Peter. It should be an interesting challenge, and will give me some good focus. I do admit to still feeling like I didn't have good focus before. Time to see what this will bring.

When I left for home I gave Deann a call to see if she was still interested in catching up this evening, having dinner, watching a movie, whatever. Alas, no answer at her place. So I got home and cleaned up the living room a little, and my bedroom a lot, and tried again. Still no luck. Oh well. Lauren wants me to go to the Vault tonight (she has the urge to dance), but with being on call, I'm not all that enthused about the idea. I hate being on call; it screws up my life.

2 June

SuperComm 2001 setup.

Picked up Deann.

Dinner at Andaluz

Watched The Three Musketeers.

3 June

Got up late. Went to brunch at Apres Diem. Took Deann home.

Had dinner at Benihana with Tim.

4 June

Thought the cable guy was coming today, but he wasn't. Sorted out and tidied up my mp3s (well most of them) and downloaded a heap of shoegazer mp3s.

Went to the Local for dinner. Karaoke night. Met Jennifer, a friend of Todd's, from Memphis. Involved in the art gallery business. Kinda cute. Gave her my email address (on request). She'll be back in September.

Went to Riviera with Lauren. Heaps big fun night.

5 June

After the show went to Marconi party for a couple of free drinks then went out to dinner with Lauren. Ended up at Vino! Very tasty. Veal ravioli with wild mushrooms. Nice bottle of wine. Great service.

8 June

Work. Then Lauren came over for a quick drink and then we scooted over to Basta for dinner. It was amazingly dead, which surprised us, especially since the food was rather good.

After dinner we met up with Brad at Phipps Plaza to see Moulin Rouge. A very beautiful film.

And then Brad went home and Lauren and I went to the Vault. At the Vault, Lauren was dancing away and slipped over on the dance floor, injuring her hand and thigh. She had previously injured her arm at work today, so she was definitely feeling both sore and out of sorts. So at 12:30am, she dropped me at the Local and went to bed.

John and Charlotte were already at the Local. And proceeded to stay at the Local. We had drinks. We had shots. We had more shots. Eventually we were poured out the door. When we got home, a round of tequila was in order. A fun night was had by all. Except maybe Lauren.

9 June

And, of course, the price of fun is pain. Ugh. Damon not feeling too well. The plumber came today and fixed John and Sarah's toilet. Apparently it was leaking. I just spent the afternoon laying on the couch, watching TV. Apparently it was Grace's birthday yesterday. Bother.

When I finally felt well enough to get up, I made my way over to Jenny's for a couple of hours (she was having a wee party), and around 11:30 I headed over to Lauren's for Vaulting.

10 June

Think I was feeling bad yesterday? Today was even worse. I did make it down to the Local for about 45 minutes to wish bon voyage to Willie (he flies out in the morning to go galavanting around Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

15 June

Work. Then beers at TGIF with Dave and George from work. Then I went home and (with a little encouragement from Heather) shaved my head again. Then I went to the Local for dinner, before being summoned to Lauren's for our usual Friday night venture - the Vault. For the final time.

So we wentto the Vault.

17 June

Recovery from Rock Star Weekend.

18 June

Work, then sushi with Lauren at RuSan's. After dinner we went back to Lauren's and watched Scary Movie. After the movie, came home, and found my DSL service was out. I decided to leave it until tomorrow to sort it out. I had a conversation with NZ, watched The Daily Show and went to bed.

19 June

A long day: 7:30 breakfast meeting, and a 5pm conference call with NZ led to me not getting out of work until 6:30. I got home and my DSL was still out. So I called Mindspring.

20 June

When I got home at 7:15 this evening, there was not even telephone service working. God-fucking-damn. I rang BellSouth. They determeined there was a problem at the CO. I guess whoever went to fix up the problem with my DSL, really fixed it up. Fuckers. I hope they burn in Hell. Well, I would if I believed in Hell.

21 June

Things are working again. I've done some catchup work on my web page, but there are still many days worth of journal entries to be fixed up (you can see them above).

22 June

Work. I hoped to get out of work a little earlier today than I had been this week. I was successful, but not really overly successful. Ah well.

After work I came home and tidied stuff up around the place. Most of the scenesters were going to the OhGr show at the Masquerade, but I wasn't interested so I sat on the deck and read more of my book about Che Guevara. Very interesting fellow.

Then I headed over to the Local for a bite to eat and a little to drink. I also managed to rule the jukebox for an hour or so.

Next stop was 9 Lives, for the new Cyberia. Let me say straight up: I liked it.

23 June

Pride Party.

John and I made margaritas, a very successful concept. We had lots of people. Sarah and Ian, Kari, Lauren and ???, Kristy and Joe, Kristy, people with jello shots, people in the kitchen, Brad, ???, Payne. Much fun.

24 June

Woke up. Hung over. Picked up bottles, cans, cups. Swept the deck. Did laundry. Drove up to Nashville. Everyone else went and enjoyed the Pride Parade and festivities. Such is my life.

The drive to Chattanooga sucked, but from Chattanooga to Nashville was good quality time and good drivin'.

Had a spinach and cheese calzone from a local pizerria, Milano's, for dinner. Very tasty. Also bought a two litre bottle of Sprite to get me though the week.

25 June

In at the plant at 8am. Took Tony to lunch at Cracker Barrel (his favourite :-). Found some problems that we couldn't resolve, left them for NZ, and I went back to the hotel mid afternoon.

Had dinner at O'Charley's - Black and Bleu Caesar Salad - caesar salad with blue cheese and sliced blackened 6oz steak. Very tasty.

26 June

In at the plant at 8am. Had lunch with Jeff at The Suttler. The day was very busy, got out around 6:30ish. Had dinner at the hotel (build-your-own tacos, and beer). Read more of Che over dinner.

27 June

Again working from 8am. Did some formal UAT as well as checking bits and pieces. More little issues. Jeff and I went to lunch at a southern cooking establishment around the corner from the plant. Got out around 6:30ish.

Had dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Hmmmm.... cow.... Started with caesar salad, followed by a rare ribeye with vegetables. A little overcooked for my liking, but tasty nonetheless. This accompanied by a couple of Newcastles, and a cointreau on the rocks for desert.

28 June

A small problem this morning meant that I was in a little after 7am. Ah well. The day progressed fairly busily. The site was putting on a lunch of barbecue ribs, chicken and assorted bits and pieces, so we ate here and it was good...

29 June

Finished up in Nashville around noon and headed for home. Yay. However, the weather was diabolical between Nashville and Monteagle, with some areas having visibility on down to a few tens of feet. Quite distressing. I got a good run through to Chattanooga, but it then took an unheard of twenty minutes to get through Chattanooga. Ugh. The next stoppage was just south of Dalton, but there could be seen no reason for the complete stop that I came to. Hrm.

I was supposed to hang out with Michele for a while this evening, but we missed each other's phone calls. Bother. I will catch up with her next week. Anyways, I ended up having dinner with Tim and Sarah (who was in town for a few days and staying with Tim) has Los Palmeros. Very tasty. After dinner, they headed off to see They Might Be Giants, and I went to the Local.

The Local was fun. It was vodka night. Heheh. Kettle One Citron, chilled. Yum yum yum. After several of those it was time to pop over to Lauren's. We had a drink and then we went on up to 9Lives for Cyberia. And it was a blast. Lots of cool people. Lots of flirting. Played some pool with Christian. Got dropped home at some unknown hour.

30 June

And I woke up drunk. Yep. And, in fact, that's how I spent the remainder of the day.

I rang Lauren to see if she wanted to go get breakfast, but she had a dentist appointment. So, instead I called Stacy and got her and Dill to pick me up and we all went to El Azteca for margaritas and (in my case) enchiladas. We pounded our way through a couple of jugs and went home.

Once home I was informed of a cookout at Kristy's place. That sounded like a good plan so John took me and Vanessa (she had turned up at some point - I was drunk, how am I supposed to remember such things?), and Sarah and Alice went separately from us. This was very much fun. There was a keg, and there was food and there were people and there was drinking and talking and foolishness. Ah yes. Unfortunately I ended up missing Scott's party, but I did survive the day. Never once being sober. Christ.

Disclaimer: Kids, spending the day drunk is not a healthy thing. It's hella fun, but not really very good for you. As Sunday proved...
