May 2000

1 May

Ah, work, is it not great? It is when you actually have a day when you feel like you accomplish something. Like today. I don't quite know what it was I accomplished, but I damn well accomlished it!

And after work, a touch up of the web page and then off to play Trivia at Taco Mac with John, Sarah, Barry and Rick. This was rather fun - the questions a little more broad than Wednesday's Trivia, but the atmosphere definitely convivial. And, what's more, we came third. Not too shabby.

After Trivia, I dealt with a few work issues and then popped over to HexensNacht with John. We played a little pool (which I lost), and Lauren soundly beat me. And then it was hometime.

2 May

Today was a more frantic day at work. The phone rang pretty much constantly from 8:30 until 11:00. A nightmare, to say the least. I ended the day feeling not quite as accomplished as yesterday, but rather with a bigger pile of stuff to do. Woohoo!!

For dinner, Lauren and I going Italaian. Where exactly? I'm not sure; maybe Azio's, maybe EatZi's.

I had DVDs in the mail; The Orphic Trilogy by Jean Cocteau. I'm looking forward to watching these.

So Lauren picks me up and we head up to Buckhead, listening to Covenant and chatting about recent exploits, and looking for food. Azio's we couldn't find, and EatZi's didn't look like what we were after we we went over to Corner Bakery on Peachtree St for food. And it was very good. I had a chicken panini and some spinach pizza, and Lauren had the mushroom pizza and something else. When we were finished, Lauren said, "Hey, wanna go shopping?" So we went shopping.

Only over at Lennox Square, and I didn't buy anything, but that was cool. I didn't see much that I wanted to pay for. Lauren bought a rocking cool metal shelf which she will pick up later this week. Or even in the weekend.

3 May

Trivia.

A new DVD arrived - Dogma. Went to the Local. Had dinner and a beer with Jesse. Then he went to pottery class and I waited for John and Jenny. Demetrius also joined us. It was a tight game. I got paged at 9:20 for a power outage at work. Damn. I got back by 10:30, to find we came third. Lauren had wandered over by the time I got back. Went home around 11:30ish.

4 May

I had to stop in the office this morning to pick up a pass so I could get in and out of the apartment complex this weekend. You see, starting tomorrow is Music Midtown. There are only a couple of bands that I'd be interested in seeing. One of the stages is no more than 100 metres from my apartment.

More DVDs had arrived by the time I got home - Blue Velvet and Being John Malkovich. Rock on!5 May

Day one of Music Midtown. And I didn't go. Heheh.

Instead I went to the pub (gee, now there's a surprise...). A joyous time was had, and then John and I went to the Vault.

6 May

Day two of Music Midtown. And this time I did go. Briefly. Eventually. But more of that later.

I stayed in bed for a long time. And then I got up and played CivII. And was really disappointed with my performance, so I watched Dogma and then had a shower. Not that the movie made me feel like getting clean or anything, just that it was about that time, you know. John was busy having his hair cut and doing laundry, so I went to the pub for a bite to eat. And a beer. Can't forget the beer. And then I went home.

John mentioned going to a party. Another lesbian party. Why does he keep inviting me to these things? Is he trying to damage my poor, sensitive soul? Nah, he just knows lots of 'em. Anyway, he was going to call me and pick me up. But in the meantime, Mike from downstairs had borrowed some plastic cups for drinking beer from the keg he had at his place. He also invited me down to join in the festivities. So I popped down, had a beer, and allowed myself to be persuaded to go over to Music Midtown. We saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds and wandered back.

When we got back, more of his friends were about, and I started the process of meeting people. The only problem is that there are far too many people for me to remember. Usual story. Anyway, some names: Steve, Sandy, Leslie, Kelly, Thompson. Um. There were more. Many from Mike's work. Damn. Can't remember (it's Monday night - so sue me). Anyway, I chatted with many of the aforementioned people, and they all seemed to be pretty cool. As the night wore on, some left to go see Joe Walsh. Later others went to see Joe Satriani. But since they were playing in the stage opposite my house, I figured I'd stick around. Then the concert was over and everyone was back. More entertainments ensued, and many people disappeared off to further drinking exploits. I declined to indulge further, as did Sandy.

7 May

Day three of Music Midtown. And, once again, I didn't go. I got up. And spent the day just blobbing around. Until John came over. And then we sat on the deck while listening to a mix of the band on the 96 Rock stage and Battery playing on my stereo. Sandy, Kelly, and Marian popped in late in the afternoon and hung out, drinking for a bit before heading back in to see the Little Black Backpack band. After they left, John and I went and got food and then watched a movie - Dogma.

About the time that finished it was time for The Simpsons and then Malcolm In the Middle. Then, during The X-Files, the girls came back with Leslie. After the X-Files, we all watched Being John Malkovich. Finally, around 12:20, everyone departed and I went to bed. A long, but very satisfying weekend.

8 May

I'm a liberal airhead! What are you? Find out here.

Anyway, I did stuff. I had a Waffle House dinner with Lauren after work and then went home. Thompson had called so I rang her back and we arranged to do dinner on Tuesday. Rock on. I did some work on my web page, paid some bills, moved a few tings round my apartment (magazines, books, etc) and then I called my mum (good son, aren't I?). John rang around 11ish and talked me into going to HexensNacht. So we went on up to that and a lost three games of pool. Close games, I must add.

9 May

Yesterday my key ring broke, so today I was without my work keys. Which meant that I had to leave the office when Jason did. Damn...

Which was good, as it meant that I could get home to pick up the new books (Malthus, Dana) and CDs (new Catatonia albums) that had been delivered, before picking Thompson up at seven. We went over to Sotto Sotto - I hadn't been there for a while and was feeling like some good Italian. As expected, the food was fantastic (I had the Tortelli di Michelangelo, Thompson had the Tagliatelli), the wine was tasty (I forget the label, but it was an Italian Merlot/Cabernet blend with a little of an additional grape, from Tuscany). Desert was divine. A splendid dinner.

After dinner, I dropped Thompson home, and we watched the end of Angel. And then I came home. I think an early night would be a good idea tonight.

10 May

Wednesday - and you know what that means: Trivia! John and I headed over the Local and were joined by Sandy and Kelly. We played a pretty good game, but unfortunately we blew the last question, and didn't come anywhere. Such is life. While I had planned on going to Nomenclature after the game for Kary's Wake, it didn't quite happen. We stayed at the pub until closing time (about 1:30) and popped over to Kelly and Sandy's apartment. I think we left around 3:30am. Ugh, not good for sleep.

Stacy was at the pub and she mentioned that she recently discovered that she works with my neighbour. Small world, eh?

11 May

Tired day. Very tired. I got some stuff done at work, although not necessarily the stuff I had planned. Then again, that tends to be a typical day anyway.

More CDs had arrived when I got home: a couple of VNV Nation - the Dark Angel EP and Burning Empires. Rock the fuck on.

Let's see, what else did I do? I downloaded Beos. I also went to the Local with John and Sarah. After the Local, John and I went up to the Vault for an hour or so - Durran was DJing.

12 May

Oh so tired. Tired. Tired. I got home from work and slept for the better part of three hours. Then I went to the pub for a bite to eat and a couple of beers and then I came home and slept some more. I should have gone to the Gothic Skating event, but I was just too tired.

Tim got Shannon and I tickets to the Braves versus Giants game on Tuesday night. We're meeting at the Local at 6:30 and going from there. Cool.

13 May

I rested much of the day. I did play a fair bit of CivII and was in a very dominating position when I stopped for the day.

And then a most excellent night of festivities began. I met John at the Local, where we imbibed a beer before heading over to Herb's place for dinner. It was Herb's birthday on Thursday so this was to celebrate that. There was much tasty finger food and beer was provided. A good number of people turned up, including Christian, Anne and Christian, Kary, Mike C, Jeff. About 10:30ish John and I moved back to town and to Eric's housewarming.

This was a location of much alcohol and many people. Lauren turned up and there were a few of Eric's friends that I had met before. There were many skydivers there as well (Eric had skydiving videos playing). From here, John and I switched driving responsibility (his turn now), popped over to John's place so he could get changed and then it was off to Secret Room at Deux Plex. And was this an excessively good time. Everyone who wasn't already drunk was well on the way to inebriation. The vibe was good; the music was excellent; the people were laid back. I caught up with Billy, Thompson, Kevin, Durran, Shane, lotsa people. It was pure hedonism.

Afterwards, I got John to drop me off at home rather than my car - I was definitely in no state to drive anywhere.

14 May

A pleasant walk up to the Local to pick up the car and the rest of the day was spent lazing around playing Civ.

That night I went over to John's for dinner (ham and beans - the left overs of the ham we had at Easter) and to watch Futurama, King of the Hill and The Simpsons. After the Simpsons we went up to Ben and Jerry's in the Highlands for desert. Then it was back to John's for The X-Files. A nice relaxing night.

15 May

A fairly laid back evening. John came over to do some work on his resume. Christian came over to hang out and taste some of my Lagaluin. Leslie was doing washing downstairs at Mike's, and she came to hang out while she waited.

16 May

Went to the Braves versus Giants game with Shannon and Tim. This was pretty entertaining. The Braves won, but nearly through it away in the last Giants innning. It was a very long game.

After the game we went back to the pub and hung out chatting to the various and sundry people there. Of particular conversational interest was Chris(?), a theology student. It was good to have a religious discussion with someone who holds different views but is not defensive or antagonistic in their argument. There was also a redneck that engaged in conversation. This guy was a majorly supid bigot ("America is the greatest country in the world because it is ruled by Anglo-Saxons. Anglo-Saxons are the greatest race in the world. Be proud to be an Anglo-Saxon", followed later by "The Irish are Anglo-Saxons". Try saying that in a Catholic Church in Belfast and let's see where that get's you...). Sorry, diverson. But anyway it turned out to be a great night. I left around 4ish, Ryan and Todd still chatting away merrily.

17 May

New DVD arrival - The X Files: Season One Collectors Edition. Six discs containing the 24 episodes of the first season and a seventh disc of bonus material. Rock on. So I watched the pilot episode before going out.

Trivia - and the final episode of Beverly Hills 90210. It was one or the other. So we picked Trivia. But in memory of the passing of this 90's institution, we named our team 90210 Don't Go!. Teehee. Tonight's team consisted of (in order of arrival) myself, John, Kevin, Demetrius and Jenny. And we came third on a good team effort. After the game, John and Kevin went to MJQ, and Jenny and I went home. I was still tired from last night.

18 May

The season finale for Friends. So John and I go over to Kelly's place to watch it with (surprise surprise) Kelly, Sandy, and Leslie. It was entertaining but rather predictable. Following Friends was the season finale of Frasier. This was very good. Then we popped downstairs and sat outside while Sandy tried to encourage her rabbit to attempt a sexual union with a stuffed toy bunny. Ahem, Two more of the girls' friends turned up (Heather and ...). Interesting piece of trivia: Leslie works with Kalina. Rock on.

It was getting late, so John and I popped in to the Local for a nightcap. During our second drink, who should arrive but Kelly, etc. So another round ensued along with much storytelling. I have no idea what time we went home.

19 May

Mental Health Day. Spent doing some cleaning at the apartment, some tidying of my car (but not much). Some reading. And much IMing with Lauren.

Tonight is Sherrod's pool party, and I will be driving. I'm going to be working tomorrow, so tonight won't be too debaucherous for me. Well, I don't think it will be. I bought a small boombox yesterday so that there will be sounds at the pool. Lauren emailed me to ask if I could give Nikki a lift since she was going to be running round like a decapitated chicken. Being the friendly person that I am, I agreed to perform the task.

It was an entertaining wee get together; plenty of people I hadn't seen for a while were there. Lauren's new friend Austin was there; he seems pretty cool. I know that one or two of my female friends would be keen on him (he's definitely your type, Bianca).

After the party, we dropped Nikki home and then John and I stopped in at the Local for a nightcap.

20 May

I went to work today to rewire the phone closet. Hopefully everything will be working okay on Monday...

After work I sat back and watched a few more episodes of X-Files Season One. John went running with Heather (who we'd met on Thursday) And then I went up to the pub for dinner, a beer, and to wait for John. Stacy joined me and we had a good catch up. John showed up later. A surprise arrival was Sharon and Victor, who live upstairs from me. Sharon and Stacy work together and they recently determined the common link.

From the Local we went to Secret Room at Deux Plex. Once again it was a night of hedonism. Gotta love it :-) When we left the club we headed over to Gay Denny's for a bite to eat, and who should we see but Scott, Kalina, Stephen Purvis and someone else I can't remember.

21 May

This afternoon I watched more X-Files and then popped over to Stacy's to network her computers. Once done, we went down to the Highlander for a bite to eat and a drink. From there it was home to more X-Files and a night of finales on Fox. Futrama was entertaining. The Simpsons was average. The X-Files was good and opened itself up to many changes for the next season.

22 May

Stacy, John and Vanessa came over and we watched Dogma. Yay. Everyone enjoyed it. It is a cool film. Prior to everyone's arrival (and while they were arriving) I watched more of the Season One episodes. Teehee.

23 May

Had dinner and a couple of beers at the Local with Jesse, Andie, Eric, Lauren. Then Lauren and I went shopping at Danger Kroger.

24 May

A big Trivia night. We didn't come anywhere, but we could have. Team members: me, John, Jenny, Kevin, Scott, Kalina, Jolie. Sandy, Kelly and Leslie also turned up, but there was no room for them so they grabbed another booth. This was a good plan, as more of their friends arrived.

After the game I went home, as I was on call.

25 May

John Cornford and Andie came over and I took them to the Local for dinner. There we caught up with Stacy, who hit it off with Andie. After the pub, John, Andie and I came back and watched the newly arrived Sleepy Hollow DVD.

26 May

Another hot day in Atlanta. After work, I went to the pub for dinner and a couple of drinks. But dinner was traditional Local fare; instead Daniel called Wicki and got her to pick us up a couple of meatball subs. They were damn good. Stacy turned up a little later and bit by bit others also made an appearance. John eventually showed up with Shannon, a workmate, and then we headed over to Stephen and Jill's housewarming.

At the party were several people I hadn't seen in a while, including Johnny, who used to share the house with Jill. I also made the acquaintance of some new people (Hillary and friends from out of town). At about 3ish, we headed back to the pub to collect cars. The pub was still open, albeit only barely, so we popped in for a water.

27 May

John came over and we looked at an apartment in the Gables complex. There was a really nice one that we really liked, but unfortunately, we missed out on getting it. Bother. I also popped over to Stacy's to see if I could sort out her network problems. Unfortunately, I couldn't; I think something is screwed up in one of her computers, as the network is intermittent in its upness. I spent the rest of the day finishing off my X-Files watching and then had a bit of a nap. More DVDs arrived in the mail: Go! and Eyes Wide Shut.

Later, John and Lauren came over and we watched Fight Club. This was an interesting little story, definitely twisted, which I like. I think I might pick it up on DVD.

After the movie we bounded over to Secret Room at Deux Plex. I was driving so I only had one drink. I can't wait to be off call. The night was rather interesting as they had a bit of a show (drummers, stilt walkers, costumes, etc). We eventually left around 3:30ish.

28 May

I got some sleep today. Not a lot, as I kept on waking and turning over rather than sleeping deeply. Maybe one day...

John came over to pick up his car and then we went over to Sandy and Kelley's. From there, Sandy, Kelly, John, Ed and I went over to Piedmont Park for the Atlanta Jazz Fest. It was a beuatiful day for it - very warm day, a nice breeze to cool things down, slighly cloudy, beer in the chilly bin. Wonderful. Heather and her new roommate, Julie, turned up later on. Around 6:30ish John and I took off to get cleaned up for Sherrod's Cheese and Whine party.

This was another fun little excursion. Also present were Lauren, Jason, Josh. Jenn turned up a little after we did, and we all played Clue. Hehe. Jason won. Heather and Nick turned up just after we finished and then most of us played a game of Uno, which Josh won. Barely. And then it was about time for John and I to move on to our next stop.

The White Trash party. So we got dressed up as white trash (confederate flag t-shirt) and headed over to Keri's place. One of the more amusing things about this being a white trash party was that there were only about half a dozen guys there and John and I were probably the only straight people there. Hehe. But it was fun. Sarah was quite nicely toasted. Later on Stacy, Kelley, Heather, Julie, Thompson, and a couple of others whose names I have forgotten also turned up (I had left details of the party). This was very entertaining as well. The last to turn up was Tricia, who had just arrived back from her trip to New Zealand. Two o'clock rolled round and I was feeling pretty exhausted so John and I made our way home.

29 May

Memorial Day (observed)

Day off work! Woohoo! Sleep in! Or, at least, try to. So what to do when one finally does get up? Clean the apartment, do some washing, be generally chore-fulfilling. It happens to the best of us, you know.

Mid afternoon, Bria dropped on round and we caught up on doings since my visit to Athens. This was cool. We watched Go and ordered pizza. The pizza delivery girl accidentally locked her keys in her car, which was kind of silly. It appears she eventually got back in (I gave her some metal coat hangers). John came over during the movie and much enjoyment ensued.

After the movie was finished, I rang Stacy to see if she was coming over for movie night, and after a brief coversation with John (which was kind of odd in itself) she came on over. The movie of the night was Eyes Wide Shut. Over the course of the movie, we finished off the bottle of Jack Daniels that I had on my bar. We all enjoyed the movie, but felt that a repeat viewing was probably going to be necessary. After the movie, rather than going over to HexensNacht (it was late), we just hung out talking shit, and ended up deciding to go camping one weekend in the near future. I'll need to stock up on equipment (ie a new tent) but this should be fun.

30 May

Because yesterday was a holiday, no data was generated for some of the processes the computers at work deal with. As a result, I got paged a lot this morning. This makes me unhappy. Oh well, comes with the territory, I guess.

In amongst the work I accomplished today (including dealing with BellSouth - a mission in itself) I had a good IM conversation with Jenn; the first we've had in a while. It was really nice. She got an A for her C++ class.

After work, John and I checked out an apartment. The kitchen sucked, so I think we'll skip it. When I got back, Mike showed me his apartment and it would really work for John and I. Unfortunately, he doesn't know when it will be free, and herein lies a problem, as John has to decide whether to resign his lease for another 12 months by Thursday. We'll see.

Stacy called to say that she wasn't feelling too good this morning. Hehe, I'm not surprised. I very nearly didn't let her drive home, but she seemed to be okay by the time she left last night. She's rather excited about our upcoming camping trip. It should be good fun. She said she'll probably come up to Trivia tomorrow night, at least for a little while.

31 May

Trivia with Love Children of Dana Scully and the Cigarette Smoking Man.

Tonight's team consisted of myself, John, Jenny, Stacy and Lauren. It was a strong game, and we pulled second place. Rock on. John, Lauren and I went to MJQ afterwards, with Steve.
