Drugs

I went to the doctor today and got some drugs. Well, actually just one:

CODAMINE SYRUP

COMMON NAME: Phenoylpropanolamine and Hydrocodone

COMMON USES: This medicine is a decongestant and a narcotic cough suppressant combination used to treat cough and to relieve congestion due to colds or flu. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

For more information, check out here.

Two year subs for NYAS

Bored in the eveningtime, Lauren and I did a bunch of tests.

Trivia night was not too successful (again).

After Trivia, Myra and I popped over to MJQ to find out what was going to be happening that night, and then went over to Nomenclature for a couple of hours. In this period I got a little more drunk than I expected - due to not drinking for over a week, I reckon.

Then Myra and I went back to MJQ and danced for an hour or so, before I headed home. A very fun night.

Shopping day

After letting Jennie sleep in we drove up to the North Georgia Premium Outlets so some shopping could be accomplished.

For myself, I bought some clothes at the Levis store, a cocktail shaker and strainer, and some music (Suede's latest album).

14 Jan

Went to the Atlanta Zoo. Took plenty of photos and saw the Pandas.

That night I went to the Local and won two out of three games of chess against Rico. Then Lauren and I went up to the Vault. This was highly entertaining.

After the club, Erika, Lauren, Kevin and I went to Waffle House for a feed, and I got home a little after 6am. A very good night.

15 Jan

Finished watching Amadeus. This is a great film. I'm glad I bought it on DVD.

16 Jan

Took Jennie to the airport at some ungodly hour. Came home and got some sleep.

While waiting for a phone call in the afternoon, I finished Rousseau and Revolution.

Jennifer called and then came over. We went across the road to Spaghetti Factory for dinner and afterwards came home via the video store.

We picked up (and then watched) 10 Things I Hate About You and The Opposite of Sex. Both were very entertaining. Jennifer went home (well, via the supermarket) around 2:30.

17 Jan

Ahh sleep. Sleep is my friend. Sleep is ... oh fuck, I'm late. Oh well, it's a public holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr Day), I'm allowed to be a little late. :-)

Anyway, work was spent catching up on email and the typical details after having been off work for three weeks.

After work, I started on chores - filling up the car, buying a scanner, dropping films off for developing, dropping clothes in to the drycleaners, dropping last night's videos back.

18 Jan

Hot Clermont Action Night

After a night disrupted by pages (yesterday was Martin Luther King Day, and certain processing was unnecessary - but the paging system complained anyway), a reasonably productive day was achieved.

After work, I met up with Lauren for dinner at the Local. Big News: The Local now has Hoegaarden on tap! Anyway, after consuming a couple of Hoegaarden's, Lauren went home for a nap, and I continued to chat with Daniel, Rebecca, and some of the patrons sitting up at the bar. Arounf 10ish, John turned up and we chatted for a bit before heading over to the Clermont to meet up with Lauren and company.

Actually, it wasn't a big turn-out: Lauren, Bria (who has recently moved to Athens), Amanda, Christian, and a couple of others. I didn't stay long (being on call, etc).

19 Jan

Trivia Night with Ted Turner Overdrive

That's right, Hot Clermont Action didn't play tonight. Instead Lauren, Brad, and I teamed up with Tim and Joel. After a reasonable placing in the first half, and a near-perfect second half, we (unfortunately) screwed up the last question and came nowhere. Still, it was an entertaining evening, with some excellent indie-rock for the music (Jesus and Mary Chain, Garbage, Blur, Supergrass, Pixies, Belly - ahh, bliss)

After the game was over, Lauren, Brad and I wandered over to Nomenclature. I got rather wet on the way, as a downpour hit as I was on my way to the car. Eh; such is life.

Nomenclature was fairly slow, but still very entertaining: full of interesting people and enlightened conversation, not to mention comfortable seating...

We bailed early, me coming home around 12:30ish.

Earlier in the day I had received a USB 250MB Zip Drive. I installed it when I got home from work. This is so much nicer than the parallel port version (which I now need to sell...)

20 Jan

Monday was Martin Luther King Day, a statutory holiday. However, I worked that day, so I took this day off instead.

And what did I do? I went to The Mens Wearhouse to buy a couple of new suits. I was impressed with the help given by the staff, and also with the clothes I bought: two suits, four shirts, four ties, socks. Scary, eh?

After spending ridiculous amounts of money on clothes, I went and had a haircut and then came home via The Atlanta Bread Company, where I had some rather nice sooup for lunch.

For dinner, I met Lauren and Jenn at Waffle House. After this, we all went over to Borders to find a book on text layout for Jenn. Unfortunately it also meant me spending money on books and CDs; I am so weak...

I bought Jean Paul Satre's Being and Nothingness, Bertrand Russell's On Ethics, Sex, and Marriage, Benedict de (Baruch) Spinoza's On the Improvement of the Understanding, The Ethics, Correspondence, Umberto Eco's The Role of the Reader, a Hellblazer comic (Damnation's Fire by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon), U.F.Orb by the Orb and Orbital's self-titled album. A grand haul.

Tonight was also the night of a lunar eclipse. After talking to Jennifer on the phone when I got home, I wandered outside to check out the eclipse. From my location all I could see was a muddy-coloured moon; no impressive red moon, which was rather disappointing. Oh well.

21 Jan

Final day of work in my first week back for the year. And boy did it drag. Finalization of the arrangements for next week's trip around the work sites took some of the day, and there were various other chores to be done. But the thing that stands out about the day was that it was COLD!!!!

Here are a couple of reports from weather.com:

  • as reported at Atlanta/Fulton County Arpt, GA last updated at 9:30 am EST Friday, January 21st
    • Fair
    • Temp: 22°F
    • Wind Chill: -5°F
    • Wind: from the Northwest at 14 mph
    • Dewpoint: 5°F
    • Rel. humidity: 47%
  • as reported at Marietta, GA last updated at 12:20 pm EST Friday, January 21st
    • Partly Cloudy
    • Temp: 28°F
    • Wind Chill: 0°F
    • Wind: from the North at 16 mph
    • Dewpoint: 9°F
    • Rel. humidity: 44%

Anyway, after work I met Lauren up at the Local where we each had a veggie wrap (and a couple of drinks) and then rocketted over to Maeve's to play Trivial Pursuit. On the way, we picked up a six-pack of Pilsner Urquell from Buddies, and we were all set.

At Maeve's were a bunch of other people, including Russ, Ryan, Helen. I teamed with Ryan, and Lauren teamed with a friend of Maeve's who also worked at Bellsouth.net. Russ started the game as a one-man team, but was joined by Kary when he arrived.

As it happens, Russ and Kary won the game, and Ryan and I came second. Woohoo!!!

Then Kary, Lauren and I jumped into the car and went up to the Vault. At the Vault we caught up with Amber and Michelle, Christian, Chasin (sp?), Kevin, and Erika, and basically had a wonderfully fun time. The was much sauciness going on around Kevin, as two of the female contigent of our party vied for his attention - and he responded to both. Much sauciness...

Once again, we were eventually asked to vacate the premises, and so we did.

22 Jan

Tired day. I spent a fair bit of the day in bed: sleeping and reading. When I finally got up, I started to do chores, like washing and cleaning, but quickly lost interest. It happens, you know.

I broke my fast with a chicken sandwich from Wendy's and then I rang Jennifer. While the weather was basically miserable where I am, there was ice on the roads up where Jennifer lives, and some of the bridges had been closed. So she was stuck at home; not that it bothered her, as she was getting stuck in to playing Final Fantasy 7. Heheh.

I had to go up to The Mens Wearhouse to pick up my suit (which they had tailored for me), and I ended up also buying some new shoes. So, at next week's meetings I shall be dressed in all new clothes. Mostly.

Then some work on my web page (updating this journal) was the order of the afternoon, as I continued to wash stuff. If I get my act together I may actually do some other work on my pages - like updates to the philosophy stuff. We shall see.

I spoke with Lauren, and we decided to go check out a coffee house just down from her place. Granted, I don't drink coffee (or tea for that matter) but it's something to do that will get me out of the house again. Not that getting out of the house is a big deal. What's my point? I have no idea...

I think I am coming down with a headache.

The coffee house is good. They have board games. I beat Lauren at Acey-Deucey (a corrupt form of Backgammon), and at Scrabble; I scored 287, Lauren got about 90 less.

Oh yeah, I have a killer headache. I've just popped two extra-strength Advil gelcaps. Hopefully I will start to get relief sooon. In the meantime, I still have chores to do...

23 Jan

Flew to San Diego for a week of meetings at the five locations where Harvest VIUs are installed.

28 Jan

Arrived back from Tampa. There was some concern that our flight might be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions in Atlanta, but all was well in the end.

When I got back, I was keen to go out and have a few drinks with my people, but Lauren was at Jennifer's, and John was otherwise engaged. I wasn't in the mood to go up to the Local and see who was there, so I ended up having a quiet night at home.

29 Jan

I spent most of the day doing very little. I read most of the Bertrand Russell book I bought the other week (see above), and then I played CivII: Test of Time for the rest of the day while I waited to hear from Jennifer.

Due to the weather conditions, Jennifer wasn't sure if she was going to come down, which was bumming me out. But just as I was giving up hope (and was thinking of just going to the pub to write myself off), Jennifer and Lauren called and we're all going to Lauren's house. I should probably eat something substantial soon, as all I have had to eat today has been two boiled eggs. Eh, I'll get something on the way over to Lauren's.

Jennifer did come over, and we watched Monty Python Life of Brian before going over to Lauren's. At Lauren's we drank vodka and talked about all sorts of things. At about 5am Jennifer and I came home.

30 Jan

I don't want to talk about today.

31 Jan

Goth Prom. I didn't make it.

I did make it up to the Local for a beer with Lauren and John, though. Which was nice.

Work today was meetings with various Coke people. One of these people, Bryan, with whom we have done a lot of work took a group of us from work out to dinner at Mirage, a Persian restaurant in Sandy Springs. This was very tasty.

Here is a picture of Brad, Lauren and Doom Cookie Jen from the Gothic Prom.
