September 26, 2005 17:08 Well that's just not on. I allowed myself to get sucked into an episode of Charmed. And now they went and put another episode on. Quote: Paige: What the hell just happenned? Piper: The freaking furniture just attacked! Tonight shall be reading and watching TV night. I guess I'll go get dinner after this episode. Ho hum. September 26, 2005 15:55 Well, I should have expected that. An interesting meeting. Hrm. We shall see what comes of it. One thing I was going to mention yesterday but forgot was the music I listened to on my way to Charlotte. I made up some new CDs: Manic Street Preachers (great sing-a-long-while-driving), Swervedriver (great driving music), The Dears (good, but didn't cut it for driving music), Mercury Rev (the burn didn't work). I also listened to The Doves. All in all, a good selection of music for driving. I had a lot of difficulty getting to sleep last night for some reason. It was quite irritating, as I was good and tired and ready for more good sleep. But it wasn't to be. That probably explains why I feel so tired now. I feel I should go do something exciting since I'm not at work, but I want to wait until my check clears before I go spend money (DVDs, etc). September 25, 2005 21:54 And there went the weekend. It was pretty good while it lasted. I got home in time to pick up my mail, including my latest check, and then get to the bank to deposit said check. I then set about unpacking more stuff. Of course, I ended up at the Local, and had a jolly good time with Lauren and Matt and the various other participants in Local mayhem. On Saturday morning I caught the Birmingham vs Liverpool game. An unfortunate own-goal and the final score was 2-2. At least it wasn't a loss. After the game I spent the day working on unpacking more stuff, running cable across the ceiling, doing my billing, and other fun stuff. Susan let me use her laundry room, which was awfully nice of her - I will need to repay her with a nice bottle of wine or something. I had dinner with Jennifer M (it was her birthday on Friday) and then checked out the house she bought and just moved into. It's really cool; I'm very happy for her. Then I did some more unpacking, returned a phone call from Deann (who I hadn't heard from in some time), and then went up to the Local for a couple of drinks. It was only a couple of drinks, because I was really tired, and ended up going home around 10:30, was in bed by 11:15, and asleep by 11:30. I woke up fairly early on Sunday, but had slept hard for eight hours so it was all good. The day was spent doing more unpacking, tidying, and arranging. My apartment now looks very much like a home rather than a storage facility. John came over to pick up the 12-pack of Yeungling that I brought him back from Charlotte. And I watched the Falcons beat the Broncos. I packed between plays, and generally had another great, busy, day. The Braves beat the Marlins to make the Atlanta sporting day rather splendid. Then I made the drive to Charlotte. Exciting news: Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story is out tomorrow. I think I might go DVD shopping (I still have to pick up Sin City and one or two others). And don't forget, Serenity starts on Friday. If you don't know what Serenity is, you should check this out. I also need to get to see The Corpse Bride this week. Oh, and this is an absolute must see. September 22, 2005 20:02 Something is wrong with this picture: I'm sitting on the bed in my pajamas, and it's only 7:45pm. Something is right with this picture: my car has a full tank of gas and two dozen Yeungling, and tomorrow is Friday. What are my plans for this evening? I don't know. I'm not in the mood to drive anywhere (I had dinner after picking up the beer, after work), so I may either wander down to the hotel bar, or walk over to Pacific & Vine (the bar where I met Elizabeth), or I might just stay here and read. In many ways the latter seems good, although I do also feel in the mood for some people-contact. Eh, I dunno. Last night I started reading Freakonomics. It's pretty entertaining. Nothing much else to say right now. September 20, 2005 18:50 Happy Birthday, Celise! This post should amuse Ben, who, by the way, seems to be continuing his slackness at keeping his blog up to date. Geez, man, it's been almost four months. Anyway, I have been asked to read lines for a character in a movie. Actually, it's only the animated pitch of a screenplay, but it's pretty cool. The funny thing, and this is something that Ben is going to find really enjoyable, is that the part I'm reading is an Australian. Heheh. It should be fun. In other mock-Damon-worthy news, I have officially become a Charmed addict, in addition to my other TV addictions. Since I usually finish work around 6pm, I typically get back to my hotel either just before, or not long into, the 6:00pm episode on TNT. I guess Season Four just started, because last week Pru was killed and this week Paige turned up. More TV news: I watched Arrested Development last night. It was funny. I didn't see enough episodes of season two, so I'm going to have buy the DVD set when it comes out. But last night's episode was good and funny. I think tonight I might do some work on my website. There's some code that needs to be cleaned up. If I feel really crazy, I might look into adding some comment-allowing code. But we shall see. I mean, I do have a script to review. September 15, 2005 23:07 Hey. Been tryin' to meet you. Yeah, so this week has been kind of trying. Very busy with the project. And, oh yeah, the project manager. Yes, he came to me at 11:30, to talk about getting together for a meeting at 2pm, to prepare for a meeting at 4pm regarding a larger meeting next week. Can we say, "someone likes meetings..." In other news, my recent Charlotte friend has become incommunicado. Oh well. She was fun to hang out with while it lasted. Kind of strange really. Oh well, so it goes. The hotel bar was very strange tonight. Very busy, obviously drawn to the live music - a Sinatra standards singer. Yeah, well. Anyway, there were a lot of firm, perky, chests and blonde hair. But, well, the rest of the package was (on average) 15 years older than me. Actually, it was all rather scary. There was this one woman who was actually very well put together and I was thinking she was much closer to my age, but then her hands suggested otherwise. Hrm, just got a text message from my mum, so I called her back. Concerned about Ophelia, but Ophelia is not really affecting Charlotte. It was really fricking hot here today. In any case, all is well in NZ, and the fam is doing good. Just switched channels: Family Guy is just starting. I'll watch that; I like Family Guy. This weekend is buy-a-washing-machine Saturday and Liverpool-beat-ManU Sunday. September 12, 2005 22:39 I'm tired. It was a long weekend. A very long weekend. I left Charlotte at noon on Friday and had a great run back to Atlanta. I started a load of laundry and then went up to the leasing office and signed my soul into my new apartment. Then we did the walk-through and I returned to 414 to finish packing. Over then next six hours I made four trips from 414 to the car and from the car to the new apartment. Lauren and Matt came and helped me out for the last two loads, which was mostly electronics and computery stuff. Saturday was moving day. The movers arrived at 9am and three hours later my furniture and boxes of books, CDs, and DVDs were in my new place. I did another load of small stuff and then went for lunch. Matt and Lauren came over to help me move the TV so I could load up my entertainment center. The cable guy arrived around the same time and everything came up nicely. I shot out to Best Buy to pick up some cables (DVI cable and audio cables) and then finished setting up the entire AV system. It all seemed to come together nicely, but a couple of the HD channels didn't come up cleanly. I decided not to worry about it. I got on with emptying boxes of CDs and DVDs so I could move the last small things. But by six I was done with carrying stuff up to the third floor. Around 8:15 I stepped across the breezeway to Susan's for a quick chat and then I went up to the Local for some dinner and to meet up with John. We played a couple of games of cribbage (I won both) and had a good chat. John loaned me Freakonomics, which I am looking forward to reading. We watched some football and had a pretty good night. Later, Patrick, Tom and I went over to Brian's for more late-night poker. I had to buy in a couple of times, but did end up a little ahead. After the game I came home and charged around cleaning up as much as possible. Then I went to my new home for some sleep. I finished the unloading on Sunday afternoon, and Joel came over to help with the last of the cleaning. The only thing that is left in the old place is the washing machine, which sort of fell apart as we tried to move it. That was my fault. Several months ago I tried to do some repairs on it, and, well, kinda detached a few more things than I knew how to put back. Oh well. It just means I need to buy a new washer this coming weekend. About threeish, I started the run to North Carolina. It was a good fast run - just over three hours. Then I met up with Elizabeth and we went to Maggiano's for dinner. Let's see, other exciting things of note. Ben sent me an interesting email, which I followed up on. I might mention it again if anything comes of it. I'm watching the Falcons' opening game of the season; they are currently ahead 14-7 over the Eagles in the second quarter. Liverpool drew with Spurs, but I didn't make it to the Brewhouse to see the game, because I was, well, moving. That's about it for now. September 07, 2005 20:30 Hi there, kids. It's Wednesday. I just got back from South End Brewery, where I had a barbecue sandwich and no beer. Yes, Damon went to a place with "Brewery" in the name and he did not drink any beer. Ah well. When I got back to the hotel, I did make plans for tomorrow night. Yep, I have a date. I called the girl that gave me her number three weeks ago. We're going to meet up for a cocktail after work and then go get dinner. In other news, Tim has been posting what he has been listening to recently. I haven't been listening to quite as much variety, but my trips to and from Charlotte have allowed for me to listen to lots of music in a single sitting. So here are my most listened to CDs of the last few weeks, including some that I've been listening to while packing:
That's all I can think of right now without wandering out to the car. And that's about all you're getting from me today. At least right now. September 06, 2005 21:49 It's Tuesday. I'm in a hotel. Law and Order is on the TV. Dinner was barbecue. Lunch was Cheesecake Factory. The AC is a bit noisy here, but the bed ooooh so wonderful. I haven't written for a few days. I am feeling significantl better than I was last week. I still have a bit of a runny nose and a bit of phlegm, but I don't feel feverish or otherwise miserable. I had a pretty good weekend, I guess. I did a lot of packing and cleaning on Friday after I got back from Charlotte. I discovered a cleaning product called Scrubbing Bubbles. It worked wonders on my bathroom. I pretty much packed up my kitchen, the bathroom, more of my bedroom. Then I went to the Local, and ended up at Brian's playing poker. After the poker, I came back and spent some time reading Hurricane Katrina stuff on the internet for a couple of hours. I then realised that I should probably get some sleep. Unfortunately, it was very bright outside, and my body had passed beyond tidiness. So I got on with packing and cleaning, and watching Isle of Wight concert footage on INHD2. Around four o'clock I made my way over to the Hyatt and an evening of debauchery at DragonCon. Sunday was a day of sleep, recovery and packing up my computer desk. And more Isle of Wight footage. Late in the evening I wandered up to the Local for some dinner and darts. John and Holly stopped by for a while. Jenn W came up for some company. I sucked at darts. I hung out with Susan (my neighbour-to-be) and Emily. A good evening. Monday was Labor Day. A bit more packing, a lot of watching Law and Order (the Jill Hennessey years), and some chatting with Jennifer M, who had just made a wonderful purchase. I am very pleased for her, and a little jealous. And then I made the trek to North Carolina. I think I'm going to buy a new receiver/amplifier this weekend. I'm not really at the financial point I wanted to be in before making this purchase, but I really feel the need so I can connect up my AV system the way I really want it connected up. Eh, we shall see. August 30, 2005 19:26 Goddamn blah. I hate being sick. When I'm sick, the day generally becomes a total waste. The nose and head pain had subsided for a while, but they're coming back again. I did learn that Serenity is due to be released September 30th. I'm keen on that. And I read on Slashdot that V for Vendetta is being delayed until March. I also found a lot of the commentary rather disturbing; I am falling back to my original feeling: the movie is going to be a travesty. In other news, I did finish the latest issue of The Economist, and watched Spiderman II on HBO and then episodes of Law and Order, Angel, and Charmed. I got a call from the front desk around 5pm to ask if everything was okay. I figured it might have been because I was in my room all day and told housekeeping that I didn't need any service today. Whatever the reason, I mentioned that I was feeling under the weather and they sent up a couple of warm chocolate chip cookies. That was nice. Okay, back to Law and Order. I'm probably going to order room service again tonight. I really don't feel like going out.
